The Problem

  • The gap between what the median-income Island family can afford and the median home sale price ($1.5M in 2022) is $844,000.

  • Over 1,000 Vineyard residents are on the Dukes County Regional Housing Authority waitlist.

  • Over 2,600 Vineyard residents pay more 30% of their income on housing costs.

  • Nearly 4,000 Vineyard houses are registered as short-term rentals and are therefore unavailable to year-round residents.

If we allow these trends to continue, the Island community will erode along with its shoreline.
